I so almost didn’t shoot this post. I’ve had it scheduled in to go live this week for a while, and yet when the day came around to shoot, the weather was shocking – pouring with rain, and I was feeling really bloated, yucky, and just not at my best at all. I contemplated cancelling in favour of holing up in my office with a giant cuppa in my pijamas, but then realised what a crappy example that was. A great outfit can completely change your mood making you feel a million bucks. You’re not always going to feel your absolute best, or your slimmest, or your sexiest… but that’s no excuse to hide away. So this one’s for all you ladies who have ever cancelled plans because you weren’t 100% happy with yourself or your body – I’ve put myself on the bloody internet so you can whack on some lippy and go for that drink 😉
I’m a huge fan of versatile wardrobe pieces. There’s nothing worse than having beautiful clothes that can only be worn with that one skirt or that one pair of shoes – you never get your wear out of them and they spend most of their life hidden away in the wardrobe. I’m going to be taking a handful of my wardrobe basics and showing you their versatility and how I style them up for different occasions.
First up – a damn good pair of faded ripped jeans.
There’s some brilliant denim out there, and it took me years to find my go to brand that fits my body shape well. Every pair of jeans I currently own are from NOBODY. A middle of the range high street brand that produce a multitude of styles. They are around $200 AUD a pair, which might seem pricey for high street jeans, but I’ve had mine for almost two years, worn them to death, and they are still going strong.
At a cost per wear they are probably at about a dollar each at this point! (This I how I like to think about my purchases – estimate how much I think I would wear the piece, then work out what the cost per wear would be).
Any classic piece that can be worn in multiple ways is high on my wish list. Here’s how I styled my NOBODY Bessette Jeans.
Casual Movie Date
Anyone who knows Mitch and I know that we have a bit of a movie obsession. We see just about everything that comes out at the movies in the week its released. I don’t know why something so simple entertains me so much – I just love seeing film on the big screen and watching something that so many people worked so hard on as they meant for it to be seen. I’m pretty sure Mitch’s obsession stems from an innate desire for popcorn though.
Anyway – I always find movie theatres really cold, especially in Aus. They crank that air con in rain, hail or shine! So I always make sure I’m wearing a jumper, and usually take along a blanket scarf just in case!
In this outfit, I paired my jeans with my SPORTSGIRL Parker Sneakers, an off-the-shoulder white jumper from MISS SHOP, and my COLETTE Triple Pouch Crossbody. Super comfortable for curling up in front of a good flick.
Brunch with the Girls
The hero of this look has got to be my brand new CASTAÑER espadrilles. I am entirely obsessed with them and they are definitely going to hero in their own version of this post some time soon… as soon as this horrid rain leaves Perth! Espadrilles make a come back every season for a reason – they are insanely comfortable and are easily paired with so many looks.
Here I kept things classic, pairing my CASTAÑERS and jeans with a simple off shoulder white tee (sorry I can’t remember where this is from, I’ve had it a while), and my beautiful MIMCO leather shoulder bag. This particular one isn’t in stock anymore as I’ve had it for over a year, but there are some stunning ones in the current collection.
Friday Night Drinks
Let it be known – I love any excuse to dress up. At events where others might consider if wearing their active wear would be appropriate, I’m at home trying to decide if my sequin KG pumps are too much and should I keep it casual and just wear my neon pink stilettoes? Yep, that’s me.
I love this look – I did wear it our for Friday drinks a couple of weeks ago and felt really sexy, but comfy too. This dream of a shirt is from LULU & SASHA in Maylands, Perth – The prettiest boutique you ever did see with the friendliest of staff. This striped peplum top is my shirt of dreams for Spring. The statement sleeves are right on trend for the season, and the peplum means maximum comfort whilst still cinching you in at the waist – big bonus! If this particular one is a bit low cut for you, team with a lace trip camisole underneath.
A simple classic clutch like this one from JACK WILLS is the perfect size for taking out and doesn’t detract from those statement shoes!
Weekend Family Lunch
Lets get the elephant in the room out of the way – THESE SLIDERS ARE EVERYTHING! I came across them during my usual nightly ASOS scroll, and fell in love instantly. Stay tuned for a blog post on styling your sliders for this Spring and Summer.
One thing I believe every gal should have in her wardrobe is a well fitted black blazer. It’s another brilliant wardrobe stable that will see you through season after season if you purchase correctly. Whilst I save and save for my dream BALMAIN blazer, (I should have it by the time I’m 65), This ZARA blazer has been a fantastic stand in at nearly three years old. Pair with a white tee and a statement clutch (this one from COAST a couple of years ago) for effortless chic.
I hope this inspires you to play around with your Spring style my loves – and don’t let this rain stand in the way of enjoying a day or night out with your faves!
Much love guys,
